Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Islam religion is considered as one of the important religions in Indian Social structure. When considered on the basis of populations, it stands second in India and for that reason, it holds the same number in the global view point i.e. India has second largest Muslim community in the world of course in this respect, Indonesia, stands as number one country. Once upon a time Muslim Community had ruled over India, however, today it has been living in a strange kind of conditions. DISASTER MANAGEMENT: ISSUES, PREPARATION AND REMEDIES |
Author : Sumit Khanna and Dr. Alka Singh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The Indian subcontinent has always remained susceptible to natural as well as man-made disasters. Encompassing huge land mass within and being the second largest populated nation, India has always lost lots of lives and property. This vast land mass has seen many earthquakes, hurricane, floods and drought that have impacted not only lives of people but also the socio economic growth of the country. Still India has emerged as a fast growing economy and a nation full of business opportunities. We always have felt a lack of an adequate disaster management system to encounter the phases of such emergencies. Our preparedness and counter
response system has always worked out around the deployment of armed forces in such situations. However recently there has been a paradigm shift of the government towards adopting and working out new methods in this regard since the enactment of Disaster Management Act 2005. This paper tends to highlight the effects of disasters, efforts made by the government, issues related to disaster management and preventive actions. It also highlights the importance of national GIS (Geo Information System) for helping as a coordinating mechanism and preventive tool in times of disaster. |

MALNUTRITION IN INDIA: CONCEPT, CAUSES AND INFLUENTIAL FACTORS |
Author : Anita |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This paper is based on the concept of malnutrition and construction of conceptual framework on the basis of literature survey to analysethe factors influencing nutritional status of children. Better social and economic
status enhances the access of the population to health care system. The sex of the children play an
important role in determining allocation of food, preference in breast feeding and priority in treatment in an
expensive health care system. Preferential treatment given to sonrather than daughters overrides the fact that
the female infant/child has biological advantage over boys during the first few years of life. The under-nutrition is
a serious problem in rural areas, particularly among households having low wealth index, SC & ST households and
among families with illiterate parents particularly mothers. The model given by UNICEF is useful for exploring the
important characteristics like social, economic, demographic, political and health care which are important for
identifying nutritional status of children. Literature suggests that there are four broad factors such as sociocultural,
economic, demographic and health care factors that can be considered as determinants of nutrition
status of children. |

Author : Dr. Ran Vijay Singh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Shortly after partition of the subcontinent in 1947, India took the initiative to build a dam on the Ganges side and commissioned it in 1975. Over the last decades, several of the 54 Bangladeshi rivers originating from the India, have been diverted or barred upstream, inside India. All of these hydro-development initiatives have had a profound impact on Bangladesh as it is at the end of the Himalayan river system. In particular, agriculture, fisheries, human health and welfare in Bangladesh have been significantly affected by the disruption
of natural water flows in its rivers. The debate over water-sharing issues between India and Bangladesh dates back to their birth, but historical developments in disputes have never been adequately addressed in problemsolving. This article analyzes political developments in Bangladesh and India on Farakha from historical perspectives. It also reveals the negative effects of Farakha Barrage on the environment in Bangladesh. The objective is to provide decision makers with ideas on historical developments of disputes centered on Farakha Barrage to contribute to better water governance.

Author : Dr. Smita R. Deshmukh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :India is the first Asian country, and amongst the first in the world, where English Studies was established as an academic discipline in higher education (HE). Developments therein from the mid-nineteenth century onwards have often been significant for disciplinary pursuits elsewhere, especially as the study of English language and literature tried to accommodate diverse cultural contexts, and insofar as the post-colonial condition came to be regarded as a fulcrum for understanding past and current political dimensions of such study. Equally, debates about English Studies in HE provide a useful index of social developments in India after independence. This chapter registers some of these developments and debates with a view to assessing the current condition of English Studies in India and considers its future prospects. |

EFFECT OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL MUTAGENS ON POLLEN STERILITY IN SOYABEAN PEA (GLYCINE MYX) |
Author : S. L. Korekar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Two varieties of soybean (Glycine max (L) Merill) viz., JS-335 and PKV-1 were treated with different measurements of physical (gamma beams) and synthetic (EMS) mutagens. A dosage subordinate lessening was seen in the vast majority of the characters like plant survival germination. The most extreme lessening was found in higher measurements of mutagens in both the cultivars, while expanded dust sterility was related with the comparing increment in dosages of mutagens. Comes about showed that higher measurements
were more compelling in all the three eras (M1, M2, and M3). However the M1 indicated more articulated diminishment in germination and survival than M2 and M3. The expansion in dust sterility was more in cv. PKV-1 demonstrating its greater affectability when contrasted with cv. JS-335. |

THE IMPACT OF FDI ON DOMESTIC INVESTMENT IN INDIA, AN ANALYSIS OF CROWD IN CROWD OUT EFFECT |
Author : Nitu Kumari |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Foreign direct investment is alleged to confer several economic benefits to the host country. Due to globalization and liberalization countries obliterate the restriction on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Nowadays the inflow of FDI in India is escalating spectacularly. Based on the world investment report “in south Asia, FDI inflows have turned around after a slide in 2009-10, reaching $39 billion, mainly as a result of raising inflows in India, which accounted for more than four fifths of the region’s FDI”. So the study relating o the impact of FDI in India is vital. When the impact of FDI on economic development is evaluated in a recipient country, a question arises: does FDI crowd in domestic investment or does it have an opposite effect of displacing domestic investment? So the benefits of the host country are questionable. There are large numbers of study on
the impact of FDI on domestic investment, whereas empirical studies pertaining to crowding out and crowding in a domestic investment are a few. This paper mainly discusses the debate that, whether FDI causes crowding in or crowding out of domestic investment in India in terms of two macroeconomic variables, rate of interest and inflation and uses a model of investment that was developed by Agosin and Mayer (2000). The present study customizes the model into the Indian context. The estimated result reveals that FDI contribute to the private capital formation in India. But the effect of FDI on domestic investment is by no means always favourable. It is
found that in the sectors like industry and infrastructure, FDI is making crowding in of the private investment, where in sectors like banking and insurance there is crowding out of private investment. |
